Lyon County commissioners have notable facility matters to address during their action meeting Thursday.
Near the end of the meeting, commissioners could approve bids from Evergreen Design/Build and Kansas Security for Phase 2 construction on the county’s new Emergency Communications Center near the Lyon County Transfer Station. Before the meeting, Emergency Communications Director Roxanne VanGundy joined KVOE’s Morning Show to discuss the project. A new law enforcement shooting range facility, currently under construction next door, has had a lot of residents concerned. VanGundy says there haven’t been the same level of issues with the Emergency Communication Center.
The total bid amounts to be presented Thursday are just over $3 million — $2.88 million for Evergreen and over $250,000 for Kansas Security. With prior concerns about financial overlap between the two different phases, VanGundy says the Emergency Communications contract has a special structure to be as transparent as possible.
If approved, VanGundy expects construction to be done by March 2027. The shooting range, meanwhile, is set for completion by May.
Other business from VanGundy includes a 3-year, $32,000 contract with Hyper to continue the Betty AI assistant program after that began a trial run in December.
Separate business for the County Commission includes a purchase of 3 pickups for the Sheriff’s Office at a cost of almost $150,000 from Longbine Auto Plaza. Commissioner and staffer reports are also planned.
The meeting starts at 9 am at the County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
