Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab is hoping to separate himself from the rest of a crowded field of Republicans vying for the governor’s seat, and he stopped in Emporia this week to talk with Lyon County officials and KVOE News.
Schwab is nearing the end of his second term as Secretary of State after time as a Kansas lawmaker. He says those experiences will serve him well if he’s elected, using his experience in improving technology and cutting fees as an example.
In his chat with KVOE New, Schwab discussed his recently-announced JEANS economic development package. JEANS stands for Jobs, Education, Agriculture, Networking and Sustainability. Part of that overall focus is on investments into agriculture manufacturing.
There are several aspects on the education side, especially when it comes to technical and community colleges.
Schwab faces a packed field on the Republican side, including former governor and lieutenant governor Jeff Colyer, current Senate president Ty Masterson, current Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt, talk show host Doug Billings, data analyst Joy Eakins and entrepreneur Stacy Rogers.
For Democrats, Johnson County lawmakers Ethan Corson and Cindy Holscher are the announced candidates.
