Osage County Sheriff Chris Wells says a Burlingame man was taken into custody after a lengthy standoff near the town this week.
Wells says deputies responded to a residence in rural Burlingame after reports of a verbal domestic disturbance including shots fired and a possible barricaded subject. After four hours of discussions, deputies took 41-year-old Christopher Vales into custody on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and interference with law enforcement. Formal charges are pending.
Wells says deputies received support from the Kansas Highway Patrol; sheriff’s offices in Coffey, Franklin and Wabaunsee counties; Ottawa Police Department; Burlingame Fire Department; and Osage County EMS.
