By early April, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office website will be absorbed by the official Lyon County website.
Currently, the Sheriff’s Office website at lyoncountyso.com is connected to the official Lyon County website, lyoncountyks.gov, but it’s through a partnership with sheriffwebsites.com, not the county’s partner, CivicPlus. Sheriff Jeff Cope says CivicPlus is more robust on the different background information for most of the Sheriff’s Office website needs, but it would be costly to develop the interface needed to essentially link the two websites. The goal is now to transfer the Sheriff’s Office website information into the county website, including information about the county’s Offender Watch program and VINE — Victim Information and Notification Everyday — for information about inmates in custody.
Mug shot photos were published upon booking since 2022 but were removed late last month and will not return. Cope tells KVOE News there has been a challenge in keeping the website updated, especially with the photos.
Cope says Americans with Disabilities Act requirements have expanded just since the Sheriff’s Office website went live in 2022.
ADA requirements were also noted by Lyon County commissioners during their meeting Thursday. Ultimately, Cope says his basic concern is to make sure rights are protected.
Residents wanting mug shots can submit a Kansas Open Records request. Proper name and date of birth is needed. The cost is $2.50 per mug shot.
