Bridge work begins near Melvern this week.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says it plans to start Wednesday on a bridge deck replacement involving US Highway 75 over the Marais des Cygnes River, about three miles west of Melvern and just north of the Kansas Highway 31 junction
KDOT plans to restrict traffic to one line, with temporary signals used as traffic control. Drivers are told to expect delays of up to 15 minutes. There will also be a 12-foot width restriction for semis and other heavy trucks.
Work will take place on weekdays and some Saturdays. The $4.4 million project should be done by December.
This is also the first of a two-phase project involving a second bridge nearby. That project is tentatively set to take place next year.
