The recent Kansas Main Street annual awards highlighted different business successes. It also put the spotlight on different local Main Street organizations for their work to develop businesses and entrepreneurs.
Kansas Main Street unveiled a new accreditation level — Ad Astra — and Emporia Main Street was one of three local organizations accredited to the Kansas Main Street’s highest standard. Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says this should lead to more development opportunities.
After a busy Saint Patrick’s Day that saw almost 15,000 visitors to downtown Emporia for state high school basketball and holiday activities, according to Main Street data, next up is the Show of Hands pitch competition for new or expanding businesses March 26 at the Radius Brewing production facility, 17 West Fourth. Show of Hands has business owners or developers make short presentations about their ideas — and attendees voting through donations on the ideas they want to support.
Ahead is The Taste on April 18 and the Center on Rural Innovation’s national conference in Emporia from Sept. 28-Oct. 1.
