We have had weather whiplash this week, and we aren’t the only ones affected.
High temperatures will be near record highs Friday and setting a record Saturday. This follows a hard freeze and a record low Monday when temperatures bottomed out at 11 degrees. Wind chills early Monday were almost -10 at times.
Plants have been suffering all week since the freeze. On KVOE’s In the Garden on Thursday, Lyon County Extension Horticulturist Travis Carmichael said some leaves haven’t looked like they should this week.
Carmichael says grasses are also suffering.
Carmichael says most of the plants will rebound, but he says a lot of the trees won’t have the “flowering show” we’re accustomed to seeing in early spring.
High temperatures will be in the upper 80s Friday and low 90s Saturday. A hard freeze does not appear likely any time soon. In fact, temperatures will be warmer than normal for at least the next week. Conditions will also be dry through at least late next week.
