People who have recently lost jobs or who are simply looking for their next employer are encouraged to attend the city’s latest Job and Resource Fair this week.
Kansas WorkforceONE Digital Communications Coordinator Nadia Qureshi says the United Way of the Flint Hills is a lead partner with the event Wednesday.
Qureshi says this event builds on the Laid-Off Worker Information sessions held at Flint Hills Technical College earlier this month.
Qureshi says it was important to give impacted workers a base of information before the upcoming job fair.
With a number of business closures locally over the last 18 months, Qureshi says the goal is to get as many workers as possible connected to local jobs — knowing that won’t be the case for everybody.
Activities will be at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building from 11 am to 2 pm Wednesday.
The event follows the immediate shutdown of Emporia’s longstanding Hopkins Manufacturing late last month and the longer closure of Madison’s ABZ Valve by May, but Qureshi says it is open to all job seekers.
