The Emporia High School girls soccer program enters the 2026 season with a clear goal: break through the plateau. After back-to-back nine-win campaigns, the Lady Spartans are aiming to push into double-digit victories and potentially make a deeper postseason run.
Head coach Oscar Macias returns to the sidelines with a roster that blends experience and proven production. Among the key returners are All-League Honorable Mention selections Emersyn Johnson, Madison Evans, and Emma Swindle, giving Emporia a strong core to build around.
From the outset of spring practices, Macias has emphasized one trait he believes could define this team—communication. Early sessions have shown a group that is already connecting well on the field, something that could translate into tighter defense and more cohesive attacking play.
Senior leadership will also play a major role. Ariella Macias headlines a group of seven seniors, bringing both experience and urgency to a team eager to make its mark in its final season together.
Expectations are high among the players, too. Evans has made it clear the Black and Red aren’t just chasing wins—they want to advance further in regionals after falling short in recent years.
Offensively, Johnson will be a player to watch. The junior is coming off a double-digit goal season and is expected to be a key contributor in the attack again. She’s embraced her role as a scoring threat and leader up front.
Emporia opens the season on the road Tuesday against Junction City, before hosting Wichita West on Thursday for their home opener.
