Milling and overlay work officially begins next week on a state highway in Osage County.
Kansas Highway 278 will see work on the north side of Melvern Lake. Eventually, work will stretch 3 miles from Fairlawn Road east to US Highway 75. Traffic will be constricted to one lane in the active work area and directed through the work zone by a pilot car and flaggers. Delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected when work officially begins Monday. Work will take place weekdays and occasional Saturdays.
This happens in relatively close proximity to a significant bridge redecking project on US Highway 75 near the east side of Melvern Lake and just north of Kansas Highway 31. That particular project ends in December with one-lane traffic, temporary traffic signals, a 12-foot lane width restriction and delays of up to 15 minutes through early December.
Work on K-278 should be done by mid-April. APAC Shears of Hutchinson is the lead contractor on the $383,000 project.
