Emporia baseball opened 2026 at Orlis Cox Sports Complex in Ottawa on Thursday with a doubleheader split.
The Spartans took game one 10-6 behind a strong performance from Chase Harrington. The senior had three hits including a double and triple. He also earned the win pitching six innings and punched out eight cyclones.
Micah Gray added a three hit performance while the Black and Red as a team had 12 hits. Eluterio Trujillo pitched the seventh to earn the save.
Emporia dropped game two 6-1.
Ottawa jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after one and added two runs in the fourth and fifth. The Spartans managed their lone run in the sixth as Gray drove in Luke Marshall.
Emporia outhit Ottawa five to four in game two.
Colton Eubanks collected seven K’s in four and two-thirds innings while being tagged for the loss.
EHS finished the day 1-1 and opens the home portion of their schedule on Friday at 4 p.m. against Wichita South.
