The Lady Spartan soccer team put together a dominant performance Thursday night, shutting out Wichita West 8-0 at the Jones Activity Complex in Emporia.
Emporia wasted no time setting the tone, as Peyton Chanley found the back of the net just five minutes into the match to give the Black and Red an early lead. The offense continued to roll throughout the first half, with Rylie Mitchell adding a goal with 24 minutes remaining before halftime.
Viveca Fuller followed with another score with 20 minutes left in the half, and just a minute later, Emersyn Johnson extended the lead even further. Chelsea Linares capped off the first-half surge with a goal with 10 minutes remaining, sending Emporia into the break firmly in control.
Leading 5-0 at halftime, EHS didn’t let up after the break. Sidney B’Hymer scored five minutes into the second half to keep the momentum going. Johnson added her second goal of the night with 27 minutes left in the game, and Sidny Linares closed out the scoring with 25 minutes remaining as Emporia won by the mercy rule for a second straight game.
The Lady Spartans improve to 2-0 and return to action Monday at the Titan Classic in Wichita, where they will face Derby.
