A Marion man is dead after an incident involving a crash and vehicle fire in Chase County on Monday.
Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh says deputies, Chase County Fire and Chase County EMS responded to the 700 block of Middle Creek Road shortly before 6:30 am following a report of a one-vehicle wreck and vehicle fire. LifeSave was dispatched and the Sheriff’s Office also requested assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Office of Kansas State Fire Marshal as the investigation continued.
Welsh says the driver, 20-year-old Samuel Mcintosh of Marion, was dead at the scene. Welsh also says Mcintosh apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with the crash happening right after the gun was fired.
Middle Creek Road was closed near GP Road for over 10 hours following the incident.
11:30 am Monday: One killed in wreck west of Strong City
One person has died after a wreck in western Chase County on Monday.
Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh confirmed the fatality after a vehicle crashed near the intersection of Middle Creek Road and GP Road, about 10 miles almost due west of Strong City, with the crash reported before 6:30 am.
Middle Creek Road is still closed at the crash site as of 11:30 am. Other details are currently pending. No other people were involved, according to Welsh.
8:20 am Monday: Injury wreck reported in west Chase County
Chase County deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers are investigating after a reported injury crash in the western part of the county.
Authorities and Chase County EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Middle Creek Road and GP Road, about 10 miles west of Strong City, before 6:30 am. Early indications are one vehicle was involved. The LifeSave medical transport helicopter was dispatched to the scene.
Further details are currently pending. Drivers are asked to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
