Radical Life is now five years old, and aside from a half-decade of existence, the local agency had many other causes to celebrate during its five-year birthday bash on Tuesday afternoon.
The community celebration was held at Radical Life’s new permanent home at 528 Sylvan Street, the First Friends Church building, which the agency purchased last October. Radical Life Co-Founder Lindsay Smith says Radical Life’s former home at Life Church was a great location to help the agency develop and grow, but the new permanent home has allowed them to expand their services to the community with numerous classrooms, a larger kitchen space and much more.
On top of celebrating their new home, Smith says the agency was also celebrating five years of triumphs both for the agency itself and the families they serve. She tells KVOE News that one of the biggest developments she has observed since the agency put down roots in the community has been the relationship-building between families and Radical Life team members.
Tuesday’s celebration included tours of the facility, one-on-one time with team members and community members, and free cupcakes and hot dogs served straight from a hot dog cart recently donated to the agency. Smith stated that having her own hotdog cart was a childhood dream come true and one she was happy to share with the community.
Speaking of the community, Smith says it was very important to Radical Life to celebrate its fifth birthday with citizens of Emporia and the Sylvan neighborhood, noting that since they made the move to the church back in December, they have been a visible presence in the neighborhood, but they also want to be actively involved in it.
With the move to a new facility complete, Radical Life is now focusing on its capital campaign to build a new playground at the church, a venture of more than $57,000. Team members are hoping that the project will receive a notable boost in funds through the 6th annual Radical Life Golf Tournament scheduled for June 20th at the Emporia Golf Course.
Registration costs for the tournament are $75 per person or $300 for a team of four. For more information or to register for the tournament, visit radicallifeemporia.com/golf.
