Area residents had another record high temperature Monday.
The temperature at the Emporia Municipal Airport peaked at 88 degrees, breaking the 80-year old mark of 86 degrees.
Residents can expect similar temperatures Tuesday with highs in the mid-80s, although that won’t be near the record of 91 set in 1971.
Attention now shifts to an unsettled weather pattern into the upcoming weekend, including a marginal risk of severe hail late Tuesday afternoon through the evening. There is a slight all-hazards risk for Wednesday afternoon and evening and another slight risk for area counties Friday afternoon and evening.
