Conditional use permits, minor plats, traffic plans and more all gained approval from Lyon County Commissioners as part of their regular action meeting Thursday morning.
Lyon County Zoning and Floodplain Manager Sam Seeley had the first order of business for the commission Thursday, first submitting a request for an agriculture conditional use permit on behalf of Tillman Infrastructure, which is seeking to build a new communications tower in the 1700 block of US Highway 56 in northern Lyon County. According to Seeley, AT&T will be contracting with Tillman to utilize the tower to boost its signal and connectivity within the area.
Seeley says that if other mobile carriers have a desire to utilize the tower, they will be able to contract with Tillman as well. Commissioners approved the permit unanimously.
Also approved was a minor plat for an 80-acre tract of land at 1700 Road E5, just two miles to the west of Emporia’s US Highway 50 roundabout. Seeley says the land owners are looking to split the tract into five lots, four of which will be five or more acres, but less than 40 acres, and available for home developments, according to Seeley.
The fifth lot will be 40 acres and left untouched. Seeley says to his knowledge there are no immediate plans for a housing development, or developments, in the works at this time.
In separate matters, commissioners approved the traffic control plan for the 2026 Unbound Gravel series of races, which will take place in Emporia, May 28-31. County Engineer Wayne Scritchfield had several items before commissioners, including concerns with a bridge in the 700 block of Road U, a signpost purchase request totaling almost $13,000 from J&A Traffic Products, a resolution establishing weight limits on certain bridges and the purchase of carbide bits from Foley Equipment for nearly $10,000.
All purchase and bid matters gained approval, as did a license renewal request for more than $11,000 from CDW-G, presented by IT representative Jamie Williams.
County Commissioners will reconvene for their regular action meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
