Time is running out to get your taxes filed. And time is running out for area residents wanting a little extra help through the AARP’s annual tax assistance program.
Longtime organizer and spokesperson Sally Conard says the program has helped around 400 people so far this year, above last year’s total. AARP may be organizing the service and the Emporia Senior Center is the host site, but Conard says everybody is welcome to set appointments if they still need help.
Conard says people need to bring several pieces of information with them.
Preparers will file the returns electronically after appointments are complete.
The AARP program is free to use, but it is set to end Thursday at the Senior Center. Residents interested in the program can call the Senior Center from 9 am to 1 pm at 620-343-3160 to set up appointments. Conard says appointments typically take an hour to process, so appointment times are scheduled from 9 am to 11:45 am.
