Another round of showers and storms is likely Friday. Some could be strong to severe.
National Weather Service meteorologist Jenifer Prieto says morning cloud cover will have a big impact on whether we see any severe storms.
Persistent cloud cover and cold front timing could affect the severe weather risk.
A slight severe weather risk is along and east of a line from Paxico to Council Grove to Wichita, with a marginal risk further west. Hail up to the size of ping pong balls and wind gusts up to 70 mph are the most likely risks. Tornadic activity is unlikely and would be brief if twisters develop.
Friday’s severe weather risk follows an unrealized risk from Wednesday, largely due to extended cloud cover, although area residents got anywhere from 0.40-0.70 inches of rainfall. Rain totals may be 0.25 inches or less Friday.
