Emporia High’s offense came alive in a big way Friday, as the Spartans rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Wichita North on the road, piling up 36 total runs in the process.
The Spartans set the tone early in game one, cruising to a 22-0 victory in three innings. Emporia scored four runs in each of the first two frames before breaking the game open with a 14-run explosion in the third to trigger the run rule.
Micah Gray was dominant on the mound, tossing a no-hit performance while striking out nine Redhawks to earn the win. He also contributed at the plate with two hits, including a double. Jackson Meinke led the offensive surge, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs.
Emporia carried that momentum into game two, securing a 14-0 win in four innings. The Spartans again jumped out quickly, scoring six runs in the first inning and adding five more in the second to take full control.
Gray stayed hot at the plate with a three-hit performance, while Grady Howe added two hits and drove in three runs. Eluterio Trujillo handled pitching duties in the second game, striking out seven to earn the victory.
With the sweep, Emporia High improves to 5-1 and will host Junction City on Tuesday.
