Lyon County Engineer Wayne Scritchfield has several construction projects ahead this year.
Scritchfield says the county will debut a new sealing method for the county’s paved roads.
Scrub seal is different from chip seal in that it forces materials into cracks as opposed to laying binder and rock chips on top of a road surface.
Scritchfield updated Lyon County commissioners on certain bridge-related matters Thursday, including concerns he has about a bridge in the 700 block of Road U, along with other projects.
Lyon County is also getting the paperwork done for its fiscal 2028 participation in the state’s High Risk Rural Roads program. KDOT has granted $620,000 to Lyon County, with the money set to replace striping and upgrade No Passing Zone signage countywide. Scritchfield says the agreement has been signed and an engineer needs to be selected. Work could begin by July 2027.
