Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has signed a bill designed to penalize the use of cell phones for drivers in work zones or school zones.
House Substitute for Senate Bill 366 sets up an initial warning citation for drivers in the zones until July 1, 2027, when citations will be accompanied by a $60 fine. The bill aims to lower accident numbers while protecting children and construction workers.
Separately, the governor allowed a bill to become law without her signature. Senate Bill 334 adjusts educational requirements for nursing educators — and Kelly let the bill go forward despite mentioning concerns about lower academic training standards.
In unrelated matters, Governor Kelly reappointed Ryan Arndt of Emporia to the Kansas Animal Health Board, which serves as an advisory to the Kansas Livestock Commission.
17th District Senator Mike Argabright and 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber will join KVOE’s Morning Show at 8:20 am Monday to discuss the regular session and preview the veto session, which begins April 9.
