April and May will be busy in Chase County.
The Strong City Preservation Alliance has a big weekend April 18-19 — and understandably so. It’s time for the opera house’s 125th anniversary. Board President Kay Lauer says a fundraising dinner will kick things off April 18 before Family Day activities the following day — leading into another milestone: full restoration.
Lauer says the ultimate goal for the opera house is to make it a community center.
Tickets for the fundraising gala are $125 a person or $1,000 for tables for eight people. Family Day on April 19 include a church service at the opera house, as well as a picnic at Grandma Betty Park, cutting of the ceremonial anniversary cake and more.

The Chase County Old School Development District had to cancel its Brews, Fiesta Bites and Live Music fundraiser set for this upcoming Saturday, but spokesperson Lee Anne Coester says there will be an appearance by noted country musician Logan Mize, who recorded an album at the Old School two years ago.
