The City of Emporia’s Southeast Transmission waterline project hit an important milestone Thursday as the final pipe in the project was installed.
City Engineer Jim Ubert, a guest of KVOE’s Morning Show Friday, called this a “wonderful” moment for the project that has been ongoing for nearly a year now. The final tie-in took place at the intersection of South Avenue and Peyton Street and traffic will be down to one lane on both roads for the next two to three weeks as crews finish replacing pavement and perform final pressure tests on the line.
The southeast transmission project began back in June of 2025, with Ubert saying the purpose is to increase efficiency and reduce the frequency of waterline breaks across the community.
Ubert also says that even while the project was ongoing over the last year, the city has already seen a significant reduction in water line breaks and associated maintenance costs.
The start of the Southeast Transmission waterline replacement process overlapped the end of the 24th and Prairie project last June and has installed over 24,000 feet of new water mains ranging from 4-20 inches in diameter.
