Emporia High track and field teams delivered a dominant performance Friday, sweeping the team titles at the Lansing Invitational behind a long list of top finishes across both the girls and boys divisions.
On the girls side, Emporia’s depth was on full display, particularly in distance events. Morgan Evans led a clean sweep in the 1600-meter run, taking first place, followed by Emma Beatty in second and Ivanna Orduno in third. Evans also added a silver finish in the 3200, while Beatty picked up another runner-up finish in the 800.
In the field events, Paige Newland stood out with gold finishes in both the long jump and triple jump. Taylor Olson added a third-place finish in the triple jump, while Morgan McCoy earned runner up finishes in both the shot put and discus. Bailee Van Sickle contributed a third-place finish in the shot put.
On the track, Kaylee DeWitt claimed first in the 300-meter hurdles and later helped the 4×100 relay team — along with Allison Aeschliman, Samantha Scobee, and Newland — to a second-place finish. Aeschliman also placed third in the high jump and second in the 100-meter hurdles, while Molly Rusco added a third-place finish in the same hurdles event.
The boys team matched that success with several event wins of their own. Xaden Delgado was a double winner, taking first in both the 1600 and 3200-meter runs. In the throws, Chance Duncan had a huge day, finishing at the top of the podium in both the shot put and discus while also placing second in the javelin.
The Spartans dominated the pole vault, with Cohen Bloomquist clearing his way to gold and River Domeland finishing second. Bloomquist later teamed with Gavin Jennings, Garrett LeBlanc, and Rylan Crowell in the 4×400 relay. LeBlanc also earned second in the long jump and first in the triple jump.
Ben Collins turned in a strong hurdles performance with silver finishes in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Daniel Gardner added a third-place finish in the high jump.
In relay action, the 4×800 team of Kasen VanSickle, Ezra Beatty, Adriel Tapia, and Walker Metcalf finished third to round out the scoring.
Emporia travels to Manhattan on Friday, April 17.
