It may have been cool and foggy, but there was still a good turnout for the Flint Hills Gravel Ride and Run headquartered in Americus on Saturday.
Having 850 riders from around the country for the second straight year was good news to race organizer Bobby Thompson.
This year featured rides of around 120, 80, 40 and 20 miles, as well as runs of 21, 10 and 5 kilometers.
Americus is a town of around 800 people, and the population doubled in size for race day. Thompson says local support is evident across town.
Besides the races and live music at Harry & Lloyd’s on Saturday, activities also included shakeout rides, a sponsor expo and the now-traditional Project Playscape spaghetti feed.
