Portions of south Emporia had a significant power outage for the second straight day Saturday.
Evergy says reports of issues started developing shortly before 8:30 am Saturday, and Emporia Fire says a pole was nearly halfway burned in the 700 block of South Exchange as firefighters were dispatched to as many as three downed power line calls Saturday morning. All told, nearly 1,100 Evergy customers in south and southeast Emporia lost power.
Evergy says power was restored in stages, with around 800 customers brought back online by 10 am. A handful of Evergy customers remain offline as of 2:30 pm Saturday.
Evergy had a similar number of customer outages Friday, although the duration was much shorter. Unspecified weather issues led to over 1,000 customers offline for about 15 minutes Friday morning.
