The Emporia State baseball team gave up 13 runs with two outs as Missouri Southern won the series with a 15-3 run-rule in seven innings on Saturday at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia. The Lions scored two in the first to take the early lead, but the Hornets grabbed one right back in the bottom of the inning. E-State didn’t score again until a two-run homer by Dominic Felix in the sixth. The Lions scored once in the second and added three in the fourth with two outs before adding another two-out run in the fifth. The Felix homer brought the Hornets within 7-3 before the Lions erupted for eight runs in the top of the seventh with every run crossing the plate with two outs. Head coach John Martin said the team is facing adversity.
Seth Stover (5-2) gave up eight runs and six hits in 3.2 innings to take the loss. No Hornet had multiple hits in the game. ESU (27-11, 14-10) tries to salvage game three of the series Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. on Mix 104.9.
