The Emporia State baseball team lost their fourth game in the last five after allowing a Western seventh inning comeback to steal game three of their first MIAA midweek series 11-9 in St. Joseph, Mo. yesterday. The Hornets jumped on the Griffons early with four runs in the first aided by a Brady Unrein RBI single and a two-run single by Cooper Schwindt. The Hornets also plated runs on a Western passed ball and aided by a pair of Griffon errors to take a 5-0 lead through an inning and a half, but Western answered with three in the bottom of the second. The Hornets manufactured two more runs in the third before the Griffs tied it up with four runs in the fourth. An Evan Abbott double pushed E-State back in front in the fifth, but a three-run triple in the seventh put MoWest on top for good. Graeme Rios (3-1) gave up a hit and three runs in just a third of an inning to take the loss. ESU returns home for a three-game set against #16 Central Missouri on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. with pregame coverage at 5:30 p.m. on Mix 104.9.
