Newman Regional Health’s plan to demolish its longtime nurse training facility has the blessing from Lyon County.
Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to let the hospital move forward with demolition plans for Cora Miller Hall. Hospital administrators like Chief Financial Officer Holly French say the building has served its purpose through over 50 years of training, but it’s time for the building to come down.
With the building tentatively set to come down this year, French says discussions continue about how to best remember the students that learned their profession inside Cora Miller Hall.
Executive Director for Patient Support Tyson Allen says there is a process to get to demolition, including asbestos abatement.
Eventually, the building will be demolished. Short-term, though, Cora Miller is getting used as a training location for the Kansas Highway Patrol this week.
Other topics for county commissioners Thursday included a bid for nearly $43,000 for corrugated metal culverts and an invoice of almost $7,800 for upgrading a Sheriff’s Office vehicle with a camera system.
