As they await a decision on the future of their beloved school, staff, students and parents of Logan Avenue Elementary School continued a nearly decade-old tradition this weekend in Hammond Park.
The ninth annual Lyon Launch Disc Golf tournament welcomed participants from both the school and community Saturday afternoon. The tournament, once again, raised funds to support the Logan Avenue PTA, according to PTA President and tournament director Sarah Megredy.
The ninth edition of the tournament comes just four days before the USD 253 Board of Education is set to meet and potentially render a decision on operations for the school beyond the 2026-27 academic year with the district considering closing the school as part of its $4 million cost containment efforts. When asked how this affected the mood Saturday, Megredy stated they were choosing not to focus on the potential negatives, but instead the community and camaraderie of their school family.
Megredy also noted that regardless of the decision made Wednesday evening, the school will be hosting its 10th annual tournament next year, and possibly beyond that.
Fundraising totals from the tournament as well as a special raffle and bake sale, are currently pending. Photos and video from the tournament are online with this story at KVOE.com.
