You’re invited to spend time at Emporia’s version of The Longest Table this weekend.
The meal is from 12-2 pm Saturday outside First Congregational Church, 326 West 12th, and organizers say it’s a way to bring people of diverse backgrounds together. It’s an intentional approach, according to Tyler Curtis, and it has developed after conversations Curtis has had for at least a year with Kansas Spanish Speakers CEO LeLan Dains.
Pastor Eugene McIntosh sees this event as a way to develop common experiences.
Residents attending the meal are asked to bring a main dish and a side dish or dessert to share. A wide range of background music will be heard and there will be lawn games. Volunteers are also needed, like table captains, greeters and setup and tear-down crews. People can sign up online through eventbrite.com and by searching for “The Longest Table.” People interested in volunteering can email ktylercurtis@gmail.com. People wanting to learn more about The Longest Table and its work nationally can go online to longesttablecommunity.org.
