Emporia High track and field turned in a solid showing Friday at the Leitel Legacy Invite in Lawrence, with the Lady Spartans placed seventh overall and the boys finished tied for tenth against a competitive field.
The Lady Spartans were led by Paige Newland, who delivered a standout performance with first-place finishes in both the triple jump and long jump. EHS also piled up points with several third-place efforts. Madison Evans took third in the 3200-meter run, Kaylee DeWitt placed third in the 100-meter hurdles, and Morgan McCoy added a bronze in the discus.
The 4Ă—100-meter relay team of Harley Smith, Allison Aeschliman, Newland, and Kaylee DeWitt also earned a third-place finish, continuing a strong day on the track for Emporia High.
On the boys side, Cohen Bloomquist highlighted the Spartans’ efforts with bronze in the pole vault.
Emporia High returns to action Friday, May 1, at Shawnee Heights.
