If you received unemployment payments the last few years, there’s a chance you might have to pay some of that back.
The Kansas Department of Labor says it is sending out over 8,500 billing notices to people who have received unemployment insurance benefit overpayments, whether due to claim adjustments, reporting issues or eligibility changes. The department says people receiving these notices have already been notified.
The overpayment notices are part of the Labor Department’s modernization of its unemployment insurance system, which gives the agency better accounting, billing and recovery, according to Secretary Amber Shultz.
Residents who get an overpayment notice can pay the remainder in full, set up a payment plan or request a waiver. Residents needing help with overpayments can call Labor at 785-296-3609 or go online to dol.ks.gov/unemployment/overpayments.
