Osage City softball is making an early statement this season, with its sights set on a return trip to the state tournament for the first time since 2024.
The Lady Indians have surged out to a 13-1 record, showing consistency on both sides of the ball. Their only setback came in a narrow 1-0 pitcher’s duel against Wellsville, a game that underscored just how strong the team has been defensively. Head coach Carly Chisham says that defensive reliability has been a key factor in the fast start.
Inside the circle, Osage City has been just as impressive. The pitching rotation, anchored by senior Peyton Pitts and freshman Sawyer Serna, has controlled opposing lineups and kept games within reach. Chisham says the combination of experience and emerging talent has allowed the team to stay aggressive in its approach.
Pitts continues to build on an already standout career. She surpassed 400 career strikeouts earlier this season and has signed to continue her softball career at Johnson Community next year, adding another milestone to her resume.
As the regular season begins to wind down, Chisham is focused on keeping her team sharp and mentally prepared for the postseason push.
Before that, Osage City will face a significant challenge Tuesday with a matchup against 4A Hayden, a game that could provide a strong measuring stick as the Lady Indians gear up for the playoffs.
