The Emporia State softball team suffered two one-run defeats to Washburn on Senior Day falling 5-4 in eight innings in game one and 7-6 in game two at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia on Saturday. ESU scored three runs in the second to answer a two-run first-inning Washburn homer to take the lead. The Lady Hornets had three sacrifices in the inning but Washburn converted just one out. Brooke Flewelling notched her 16th homer in the fifth but Washburn found two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to take the win. In game two, ESU took the lead on Sydney Wagner’s first career home run, but ESU’s pitching couldn’t contain their rivals in the fifth giving up six runs and six hits in the inning. ESU answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning after the first two hitters walked and were driven in by a Leslie Ramos double. Kinsey Perine added an RBI single later but Washburn broke the tie with a single in the seventh. Head coach Megan Hill said E-State struggled to get outs in the circle.
