Emporia High track and field swept the team titles Friday at the Shawnee Heights Invitational, as both the boys and girls squads finished first overall.
For the boys, Xaden Delgado led the way with wins in the 1600 and 3200. Ben Collins swept both hurdle events, with Jerad Clifton finishing second in each. The 4×100 relay team took first, while three other relay teams placed second.
In the field, Kael Bloomquist at high jump and Cohen Bloomquist at pole vault each won their events, and Chance Duncan recorded three runner-up finishes in the throws.
The Lady Spartans delivered a balanced performance. Emma Beatty won the 800, while Madison Evans took first in the 1600 and second in the 3200. Harley Smith added silvers in the 100 and 200. The team dominated the 100 hurdles with Allison Aeschliman, Kaylee DeWitt, and Molly Rusco going 1-2-3, and DeWitt also placed second in the 300 hurdles.
Relay teams impressed as well, winning the 4×100 and 4×200 while taking second in the 4×400. In field events, Paige Newland won both the long and triple jump. Micah Huber added a pole vault win, while Morgan McCoy and others contributed top-three finishes in the throws.
The Black and Red travel to Circle High on Friday, May 8.
