Foster Parent Appreciation Month is now underway.
The month of May serves as a time to honor and celebrate those who open their homes to children in need and CALM Foster Care has several plans in place to do just that. While she couldn’t share the full gamut of plans, CALM Family Specialist Jenna Dakken, a guest of KVOE’s Morning Show Monday, says they will be spending the month “doing a little bit extra” to show their gratitude to local foster parents.
Dakken and CALM Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker (LBSW) Missy Floyd say the work of a foster parent can be a turbulent yet rewarding one, with Floyd noting no day is ever truly the same.
Dakken notes that foster parents often have to overcome several barriers and hurdles that traditional parents may not.
Foster Parent Appreciation Month comes at a time when Floyd says the need for foster homes remains significant, as they consistently have children pass through their doors. While it is not always possible, Floyd says one of CALM’s main goals is to find homes for children that keep them in and connected to their current communities.
