Two Emporians escaped injury after a wreck on the Kansas Turnpike near Lawrence on Sunday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 9:20 am. A small SUV driven by 42-year-old Bobby Joel Gryner of Emporia and a car driven by 19-year-old Maelyn Kaeb of Overland Park were both eastbound when Gryner started a lane change. Troopers say Kaeb tried an evasive manuever to avoid Gryner’s SUV, only to hit the inside barrier wall instead. Kaeb’s car then crossed the highway to the right before going through a metal guardrail and rolling at least once into a drain culvert.
Kaeb and two passengers all had suspected minor injuries and were transported to Overland Park Regional for treatment. Gryner and a passenger, 44-year-old Lolita Carmona-Gryner of Emporia, were not hurt.
