Emporia city commissioners have a full slate for their regular meetings Wednesday.
The action meeting starts at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room, with commissioners set to approve items related to several city construction projects. The list includes a consultant for the Safe Streets for All program, a resolution supporting KDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Safe Routes to Schools grant program and the 2026 Pavement Preservation contract.
Separately, commissioners could revisit recent recommendations from the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission, including a zoning change at 615 Overlander from Lyon County Light Industrial to City of Emporia Light Industrial before possibly approving a conditional use permit for Flint Hills Technical College at that address. Another zoning matter could lead to a conditional use permit for outdoor RV storage at 2626 West US Highway 50.
Other action session agenda items include potential approvals of General Obligation bonds and the annual agreement between the city and the Emporia Recreation Commission for operating the Jones Aquatic Center.
The study meeting follows at White Auditorium Wheeler Conference Room, including conversations about extending the alcohol sales period during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, plans for the Water Treatment Plant and potential work in the Becker Addition.
