Beacon for Hope is getting ready for a brick-and-mortar location.
Director Melissa Owen discussed the move as part of KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday. Owen says this is a good move for several reasons, making the new venture “exciting and overwhelming” at the same time.
Beacon will be at 1225 West 6th Suite B, next to A&G Consultants and across from McDonalds. This follows a roughly 3-month search for what Owen calls a “collaborative space” with other Beacon team members. It comes with Beacon about to expand into new territory as part of a grant through the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services.
Beacon is nearing the end of a one-year grant through the same KDADS program to expand services into southeast Kansas, primarily with teenagers and young adults, and Owen says that work will continue on an as-needed basis.
Locally, interest in Beacon’s mental health connections continues at a high level.
Owen says the local activity slate will be busy this year, including a brand-new state conference this summer.
Many of Beacon’s fall activities will be consolidated into what’s being called the You Matter Fest on Oct. 3. The 5th annual Hope With Horsepower car show will be Oct. 3.
Grand opening activities will be at 10:30 am May 20.
