The city of Emporia has been working in several ways to make government operations more accessible and transparent over the last few years.
The latest example of that was released Monday: MyEmporia, a new app allowing residents to connect with city services. Residents can report non-emergency concerns, check sanitation and recycling schedules, pay utility bills, monitor water use, get city notices for road closures and learn more about meetings among other features.
Communications Manager Christine Torrens sees the water-related items as key features for residents.
Torrens says MyEmporia reflects about a year’s worth of conversations on next steps for making city information more accessible.
MyEmporia is available at no charge for Android and Apple devices.
MyAlerts, which has been used to convey information like water main breaks, sanitation schedule changes and weather alerts, will still be utilized. It will be separate but will be used in conjunction with MyEmporia until further notice.
This connects with several other online features, including the Rep’d platform, where residents can get video responses to their questions by going to emporiaks.gov and clicking on “Ask Emporia”; Recollect, which lets residents see their trash and/or recycling pickup schedules, sign up for reminders; and the street closure map accessible at emporiaks.gov/livemap.
