The Emporia Saint Patrick’s Committee will be handing out checks to nearly 10 community groups in and around Emporia soon.
Spokesperson Barb Lowery says a change in approach from auction to sponsorships led to over $8,200 going to the beneficiaries.
Groups are getting $750 each. They include:
-Emporia High School Theatre Program (to perform “A Piece of My Heart” at International Thespian Festival in June)
-Flint Hills Area Girl Scouts
-Hetlinger
-Hitt Factory Hornets Baseball Club
-Honor Flight – Southern Lyon County (2 committee members chose this organization)
-HOTT (Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow)
-Project Playscape (in Americus)
-Team Coyote
-Team Schnak
Lowery says the committee now waits until fundraising is done to discuss and determine beneficiaries.
Endowed scholarships at Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College also get funding.
Lowery says conversations are already underway for 2027 activities, including the parade and Town Royal gathering on March 13.
