The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says it is getting calls from residents about a person claiming to be an employee.
The Sheriff’s Office says somebody identifying himself as Michael Hurst is also calling himself either a captain or corporal with the office before asking for personal information.
The office says this is false for two main reasons:
*There is nobody named Michael Hurst currently employed by the office
*The Sheriff’s Office will never call to inform people they have warrants, to request payments to avoid legal issues or to ask for payments by gift cards or cryptocurrency
If you get calls from people claiming to be from law enforcement, a bank or other allegedly official entity and those people begin requesting personal information, hang up immediately without divulging any information and call the organization directly using the official phone number. If you believe you have been scammed, call local law enforcement.
