The #7 Missouri Southern softball team scored six runs, all with two outs, on the way to a 6-1 victory over Emporia State in the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia. Southern got on the board first with two outs in the third thanks to their first two-out homer of the game. E-State started the fifth inning with a leadoff triple from Kinsey Perine and Taryn Burkhardt drove her in to get the Big Gold on the board, but the Lions replied with three more two-out runs on back-to-back home runs. Hannah Butterbaugh (12-6) lasted 2.2 innings to take the loss. Burkhardt, Sydney Wagner, and Brooke Flewelling all had two hits. Head coach Megan Hill said facing Southern, who started the game with the MIAA Pitcher of the Year before bringing the Freshman of the Year out of the bullpen, are tough to score on.
ESU wraps up the year at 29-18.
