Stamp Out Hunger did well to meet the springtime hunger need seen at Emporia’s Salvation Army.
The annual drive brought in around 4,000 pounds of nonperishable foods. Salvation Army Capt. Mylie Hadden says it’s a “critical” drive — along with KVOE’s Drive for Food every October — and she thanked the community for stepping up again.
Hadden says the major food drives also help residents need have a good variety of food available.
Emporia’s Letter Carriers Association was the Salvation Army’s major partner with the drive, with Postal Service workers picking up food on Saturday’s routes. Spokesman John McCormick:
McCormick says it takes a community effort to help those in need.
With the food collected, Hadden says volunteers are needed over the next two weeks, possibly longer, to sort the food. Volunteers are also needed to pick up donations at Aldi, Dillons and Walmart on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Residents interested in either activity — or both — can call the Salvation Army office at 620-342-3093.
