National Hospital Week is officially underway and KVOE News welcomed administrators and professionals Monday morning to discuss their passion for healthcare and how it continues to evolve.
Among our guests was Newman CEO Cathy Pimple, who began her career 30 years ago. She says healthcare was a fundamental decision for her.
Newman Hospitalist and Lyon County Health Officer Dr. Ladun Oyenuga says the seed for her passion was planted at a young age, telling KVOE News she had a great admiration for healthcare professionals, having spent a great deal of her formative years being cared for by them.
For Chief Nursing Officer Heather Aylward, a familial attachment is what first introduced her to the profession.
Newman Public Relations and Outreach Specialist Kacie Hastings joined the healthcare profession just over two years ago after a career in education. She says joining the Newman team has been “invigorating” and eye-opening.
As with all things, the healthcare profession has changed greatly since each of these individuals began their career with Aylward, saying technology has become much more prominent in providing quality care to patients.
Pimple and Oyenuga agreed with Aylward and Oyenuga adding that not only has technology made information more readily available to doctors, but to the patients as well.
As for the future of healthcare, Hastings says there are so many exciting developments in the profession to look towards, especially in Lyon County.
In her closing remarks, Pimple noted they are excited to celebrate hospital week and the motivation that comes with it, noting that healthcare workers rarely need the extra motivation simply because of the belief they have in the meaning of their core mission.
Organized by the American Hospital Association (AHA), National Hospital Week began in 1921 and was originally recognized as National Hospital Day and was created to help rebuild public trust in hospitals following the flu pandemic of 1918. The celebration evolved from a single day to a full week in 1953.
