Plans are in place for Emporia’s official Memorial Day service at the All Veterans Memorial.
On KVOE’s Morning Show on Monday, Master of Ceremonies Ashley Mitchell said the purpose of Memorial Day is different than the one for Veterans Day — adding to a more solemn atmosphere.
Activities on May 25 will start at 9:30 am and will follow the traditional format, including the National Anthem, pledge of allegiance, keynote address from retired Colonel Fran Oleen, laying of wreaths, a memorial roll call and Taps.
Meanwhile, plans continue unfolding for Emporia’s Independence Day parade and public gathering set for July 3. Organizer Richelle Birk:
