Ground has officially been broken at the site of Stormont Vail Health’s new multi-million dollar health clinic.
Stormont leadership was joined by caregivers, hospital partners, and community leaders for the ceremony at the site of the new clinic at the intersection of West 18th and Road G (Americus Road) on Friday morning. While the new facility has been the subject of discussion for nearly three years, Stormont CEO Mark Slyter says the groundbreaking has truly been more than 30 years in the making.
During his comments to the public Friday, Slyter thanked many of the individuals and entities who helped make the facility a reality, starting with their “people.”
Also offering remarks Friday was Clinic Director Kelsey Meyer, who says she is excited about the clinic’s construction not only as a health care provider, but also as a native Emporian and mother.
Interim Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce President Mike Law, in his comments Friday stated the groundbreaking of the new facility is a major positive for a community that has experienced a lot of negativity in recent months.
During Slyter’s comments Friday morning, emergency responders had to be called to the site due to a fainting incident. An unnamed male, collapsed within the first 10 minutes of the ceremony, with medical professionals on site immediately rushing to provide aid until EMS arrived.
Slyter says it was an unfortunate situation, but it illustrates the collaborative quality of care available in Emporia.
The new facility will offer several levels of primary care, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics and behavioral health. It will also offer several types of specialty care, including immunology, allergy, cardiology, endocrinology, occupational health and orthopedics. Imaging and lab services will also be included.
The roughly $35 million campus should be open to the public in two years.
