The Sertoma Club of Emporia demonstrated what it means to be a good neighbor this weekend in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.
The club recognized America250’s Good Neighbor Day America by offering free rides on the Sertoma Club train in Soden’s Grove. The only request from the club was for a donation of canned goods to the Salvation Army of Emporia, with Sertoma Incoming President Barb Rourke saying it was a great fit to combine fun for the family with meeting a great need across the community.
Salvation Army Captain Mylie Hadden was on hand for the event, collecting donations, saying the message of Good Neighbor Day truly resonates with her.
Hadden also says this is just the cherry on top of what has been a bountiful few months of support for their agency.
Good Neighbor Day America is a nationwide initiative promoting a day of service and kindness to inspire 250 million acts of kindness across the country as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Collection totals from Emporia’s activities are currently pending.
