Beacon for Hope Suicide Prevention welcomed the community to its new brick-and-mortar location Wednesday.
in its current central Emporia location for about a month, Beacon had a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house event. Founder and Director Melissa Owen says this helps the staff get together and game-plan in person.
Owen says virtual meetings have a purpose, but it’s better to have face-to-face discussions.
This comes as Beacon for Hope is nearing the end of one state grant to expand services in southeast Kansas and starting another to develop services in north-central and northeast Kansas. Owen says having a physical office should lead to one immediate benefit:
As the work in southeast Kansas comes to an end, Owen says the needs demonstrated there are also different from the ones already being discussed to our north.
Beacon for Hope is now at 1225 West Sixth, next to A&G Consultants. More information is available at hopelinks.org and on Beacon’s social media platforms.
